A Look at Ticket Prices to Major 2023 Events
Ticket prices are continuing to make headlines, and as the second half of the year begins, we wanted to look back on the average ticket prices for several key events that took place in the first half of the year.
Let’s go in chronological order, starting with Super Bowl LVII.
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the Feb. 12 game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The average ticket price for the game, which featured NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, reached $7,865 – significantly higher than any other event so far this year.
Fast forward a few months to the NCAA women’s basketball national championship. It was the most watched men’s or women’s college basketball game ever on ESPN platforms. LSU came out on top against Iowa with a score of 102-85, with the average ticket price landing at $321.
Just one day later, the NCAA men’s basketball national championship tipped off. No. 4 seed UConn triumphed over San Diego State 76-59. And despite having fewer viewers than the women’s game, the average ticket price to get into the men’s game was $464.
The Kentucky Derby, dubbed the “greatest two minutes in sports,” was on May 6. Even with Churchill Downs’ recently added seating, the average ticket price still reached $414.
On June 12, the Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat 4-1 in the best-of-seven NBA Finals at Ball Arena in Colorado. The average ticket price: $1,575.
Rounding out the first half of the year in sports was the NCAA Men’s College World Series. LSU beat Florida in the best-of-three series on Monday. The average ticket price for Game 3 landed at $244.
Lastly, let’s not forget the event that is taking over headlines and conversations across the country – and it’s not a sporting event. The average ticket price to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is $1,875.
In June alone, Taylor Swift’s concerts took up nine out of the 10 events that had the highest average ticket prices with Soldier Field leading the way at $2,667 on June 3, 2023. The only other live event on the top 10 list? Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
