Average Ticket Prices to NWSL Challenge Cup Following Format Change
The last game of the NWSL Challenge Cup – excluding the semifinals and finals – takes place on Wednesday. The tournament, which started in 2020 as a preseason tournament, changed its format this year to be held during the season, primarily on Wednesday nights.
The schedule also accommodated players competing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year as games were only held from July 10 to Aug. 17. The final game will see NJ/NY Gotham FC face off against the Orlando Pride.
Average ticket prices for the Challenge Cup games varied throughout the tournament, but one team consistently had higher average ticket prices than the others.
Top 3 Challenge Cup matchups by average ticket price:
- 5/10: Orlando Pride at Washington Spirit – $65.63
- Washington Spirit at North Carolina Courage – $36.48
- Washington Spirit at NJ/NY Gotham FC – $29.74
Four teams will advance to the single-elimination semifinals on Sept. 6, with the two top teams competing in the finals on Sept. 9.
This year, UKG – the tournament’s partner – agreed to $1 million in prize money that will be distributed among the four teams. Previously, the prize pool was just half of that. It reportedly marks the highest prize payout ever in a U.S. women’s soccer league event.
In 2022, the North Carolina Courage took home the trophy after beating the Washington Spirit 2-1.
