Sabalenka, Sinner Win $3.6M at US Open

The 2024 US Open has officially concluded following the men’s and women’s singles and doubles finals over the weekend.

Singles

On Saturday, Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus defeated American Jessica Pegula to ink herself in history and take home the trophy. Sabalenka lost in the final last year and the semifinals the two years prior.

“So many times, I thought I was so close to get a US Open title,” Sabalenka said during her trophy ceremony. “It’s been a dream of mine. Finally, I got this beautiful trophy. It means a lot.”

On the men’s side, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner from Italy won the final over American Taylor Fritz.

Between Sabalenka and Sinner, it’s the first time that the same man and woman won both hard-court majors – the Australian Open and US Open – in the same year since 1988.

Each US Open singles winner earned $3.6 million, with the runners-up taking home $1.8 million each.

Doubles

On Friday, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko won the women’s doubles final over Kristina Mladenovic and Zhang Shuai. The next day, Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the men’s side over Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz. The prize purse for each winning pair was $750,000.

Tickets

Sunday’s session, which featured only the men’s singles final, was the hottest ticket according to its average ticket price. At a ticket average of $953, the session was far more expensive than the other sessions.

It was followed by Session 23, the men’s semifinals, which averaged $604 per ticket, and Session 20, the men’s and women’s quarterfinals, which averaged $499 per ticket. Session 24, which featured the men’s doubles final, the women’s final and the junior boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles finals, had an average ticket price of $494.

With the conclusion of the US Open, the four Grand Slams of 2024 are officially over. The next will be the Australian Open in January.
