TOUR Championship Tees Off Thursday
The TOUR Championship begins today at Georgia’s East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta – the tournament’s home since 2004 – to close out the FedEx Cup Playoffs. It tees off at 11:26 ET with Jordan Spieth and Sepp Straka.
The top 30 golfers are competing for a $75 million purse, with the top player winning $18 million of the total and No. 30 winning $500,000. The BMW Championship, which had the top 50 players, ended on Aug. 20 with a $20 million purse.
The winner receives a five-year PGA Tour exemption, while all players who qualify for the Tour Championship receive a two-year PGA Tour exemption.
Rory McIlroy won the championship and the FedEx Cup last year, making history as the only player with three titles. At two, Tiger Woods is the only other player to win multiple FedEx Cups.
McIlroy currently stands third in the PGA standings – behind Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland – giving him a starting score of -7. Scheffler will start with a score of -10 and Hovland, who won the BMW Championship, a score of -8. Scheffler is the reported favorite to win this year’s tournament.
FedEx has been the title sponsor of the tour’s season-long points competition since 2007 and extended its contract for 10 years in 2017.
Fans can watch the Tour Championship on the Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday. The Golf Chanel and CBS will split airtime on Saturday and Sunday. Peacock will also broadcast the parts of the tournament that are televised by Golf Channel.
