Ticket Prices for Second Round of College Football Playoff

The second round of the first 12-team College Football Playoff begins today, and the demand for the new format is clear.

Tuesday and Wednesday will feature the quarterfinal games, with the semifinals on January 9-10 and the championship on January 20. The Fiesta Bowl between the Boise State Broncos and Penn State Nittany Lions will kick off the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The other three will be on Wednesday.

  • Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: Texas Longhorns vs. Arizona State Sun Devils
  • Rose Bowl: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Oregon Ducks
  • Sugar Bowl: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Georgia Bulldogs

All four games will air on ESPN. Wednesday’s game will be played at 1 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. ET and 8:45 p.m. ET, respective to their order above.

While all of the quarterfinal games are played within the matter of a couple of days, two of the games have much higher demand based on their average ticket price. The Sugar Bowl has the highest at $359. The game will be played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans – the same venue the Super Bowl will be played in come February.

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California isn’t far behind, though. The average price to the game is sitting at $333 as of Tuesday morning.

Where there starts to be a drop in demand is for the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. The average price for the game is $246, but it’s still more expensive than the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, which is less than half the average price of the Sugar Bowl at $168.

The winner of the Fiesta Bowl will face the winner of the Sugar Bowl in the Orange Bowl on January 9. Without teams decided, the game already has an average ticket price of $430. The winners of the Peach and Rose Bowls will meet in the Cotton Bowl on January 10, which currently has an average ticket price of $566.

To no surprise, all the ticket prices are outweighed by the championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which has an average price of $1,829 so far.
